Our house is located in a quiet village with the river Tyne running through in the beautiful Tyne Valley. It is within 4mls of the historic market towns of Hexham and Corbridge. The Roman Hadrian's Wall with it's many forts is only 2mls and a short drive away is Kielder, the largest man made lake and forest in Europe with beautiful walks and many water activities. The North East coast, Scotland, The Lake District and North Yorkshire Dales and Moors are within easy driving distance. Because of the history of Northumberland and being on the border with Scotland the area has many fortified houses and castles. The city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne is only 20mls away with theatres, restaurants, shops, art galleries and museums and also Newcastle International Airport. Our house was built at the beginning of the 20th century and was at one time the village post office. It is a large stone building next to a quaint wooden chapel right in the centre of the village. There is a local pub which serves good food, a filling station and a small general store.
