The Shenandoah Valley and surrounding Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains are full of scenic beauty. Attractions in and around Lexington include: Lee Chapel and Museum (burial place of Robert E. Lee); the beautiful campus of Washington and Lee University (9th-oldest college in the US); Stonewall Jackson House (home of the Civil War general); Virginia Military Institute; Carriage rides around the beautiful town of Lexington; Reeves Center (Chinese porcelain collection); Virginia Horse Center; Theatre at Lime Kiln; Boxerwood Gardens; Drive-in movie theater; Cyrus McCormick Farm and Museum; Devils Backbone Brewing Company; Area Wineries; Goshen Pass; Appalachian Trail; Blue Ridge Parkway; Safari Park; Natural Bridge and Caverns; Luray Caverns; hikes (such as Crabtree Falls); Country Club golf course and public course at Buena Vista; Garth Newel Music Center; Douthat State Park, and at Staunton (a 40 minute drive away) you will find the American Shakespeare Center’s authentic recreation of the Blackfriars Playhouse, the Frontier Culture Museum and Woodrow Wilson’s house and presidential library.
