Our home is centrally located in Kottayam, the backwater district of Kerala, India. Five mins drive from the railway station and less than two hours drive from the closest airport (Kochi/Cochin). The neighborhood is family friendly and safe. Five minutes walk from the nearest eating joints, banks & hospital.

The house is set in one fifth of an acre and is surrounded by tropical fruit trees like mango, sapodilla, rose apple, jack fruit etc. The garden sports orchids, anthuriums, begonias and many other ornamental and medicinal plants. Butterflies and birds like the kingfisher, woodpecker, cranes and migratory birds in season stop by.

Morning walk routes trails through backwaters, river, paddy fields and ancient family homes.
Kottayam is the headquarters of the Syrian Christian Church, one of the oldest branches of Eastern Christianity and boasts of several churches that date back to the 17 century. The architecture unique to the region.

Medical tourism is prevalent in Kottayam for both Ayurveda and modern medicine. High quality and affordable prices make it an attractive destination for visitors from the west.

In season (august) Kottayam hosts the snake boat race. Kumarakom famous for its backwaters and houseboats is less than about 15 km away. Other neighboring areas of interest are Munnar, Kochi, Kumarakom, Kovalam, Varkala, Alappuzha/Aleppey, Thekkady, Idukki etc.

Aleppey once known as the Venice of the east was a famous trading centre where coir and spices where routed through the vast network of canals. The canals and coir factories still remain and export coir and coir products. Paddy cultivation below sea level - kuttanad is another specialty of the region.

Overall a lovely tropical vacation with temperatures ranging between 20 to 36 degree Celsius. We prefer Non Simultaneous exchange / hospitality exchange.

We are new to this and looking forward to arranging our first home exchange. We are easy going and enjoy discovering new places and meeting new people. Please be assured that we are responsible and well organised. We will take good care of your property. We love animals so if you have pets we can certainly take care of them.
