We live in a 12th century Knights Hospitaller tower which sits in 50 acres of meadow and woods, with peace and 360 degree views of the countryside down to the Pyrenees. Ceilings are roughly 16 feet high and the rooms are atmospheric, many with fireplaces as well as central heating, - even those in the modern 15th century wing. At the top of the 17th century oak staircase is a further 120 metre square self-contained tower apartment which may be separately available; this has 2 bedrooms, a huge mezzanine and its own roof terrace.
In the huge attached barn there is a sauna and bicycles are available.
In the grounds there are lawns, terraces and shady corners for privacy, plus a spa and barbecue on the terrace, and you may see hares, deer, wild boar and an enormous range of bird and insect life. The countryside is quiet, with small but lively market towns within 10 miles. Toulouse, Carcassonne and the Pyrenees are easy to reach, and there are a number of local farmers selling from the farm gate - confit de canard, foie gras, jams and honey, vegetables and fruits in season.
Here you have the best of worlds - quiet countryside, dramatic mountains, bustling cities with excellent shopping, theatre and cultural events, and ancient historic sites, plus a variety of outdoor activities at all seasons, including skiing, use of public swimming pools, riding, fishing, hiking and so on. We welcome non-smokers and offer car exchange.
